Buying handmade products in volume is different from buying factory goods, so moving from sample to bulk needs a clear plan. Every piece is shaped, printed or painted by hand, so a clear process protects both quality and your launch dates. This is the path we recommend to new buyers.

Step 1: Shortlist designs and share your brief

Start with the catalogue or website and pick the designs you like. Then share the basics: target markets, quantities, sizes, colours, packaging needs and your price range. The clearer the brief, the more accurate the quote.

Step 2: Order samples

Samples let you check quality, colour and finish before committing to bulk. Our approach:

  • Wooden and epoxy resin items: a sample order of at least 10 pieces in total, and designs can be mixed. Sample prices are shown on each product.

  • Hand block printed textiles: swatch cards and samples are available on request, with pricing quoted per programme.

Budget for courier costs. For small parcels door to door delivery is usually the simplest option.

Step 3: Approve and specify

When the samples arrive, check them with your team and write down every detail you want in bulk: dimensions and tolerance, colour references, finish, labels, barcodes and carton marks. For printed textiles, approve a strike-off for each colourway.

Step 4: Confirm MOQ, price and lead time

Minimum order quantities depend on the craft. Our bulk prices for wooden and epoxy products apply from 500 units, and block print programmes start from 500 units per design. Lead time depends on quantity and season, so confirm it in writing together with payment terms and the Incoterm.

Step 5: Private label, if you need it

Many buyers sell under their own brand. Common options include custom colourways, woven or printed labels, hangtags, barcodes, retail packaging and buyer specific carton marking. Share your artwork early because printed packaging has its own lead time.

Step 6: Inspect before shipment

A pre-shipment inspection is the best protection for your investment. Most inspections follow the AQL sampling tables of ISO 2859-1, which was updated in a third edition published in January 2026. General inspection level II is the most common default. Many consumer goods buyers use limits of 0 for critical defects, 2.5 for major defects and 4.0 for minor defects. Agree these limits with your supplier before production starts.

For handmade goods, define what is a defect and what is natural variation. Small differences in grain, glaze or print registration are part of the craft, while cracks, stains and wrong sizes are not.

Step 7: Ship and receive

Once the goods pass inspection, the exporter prepares the commercial invoice, packing list and certificate of origin, and books the shipment on the agreed Incoterm. Check that the HS codes match your broker's advice and that wood packaging carries the ISPM 15 mark.

Step 8: Review and reorder

After your first sell-through, review what sold, what was returned and why. Reorders are faster because the specifications and approvals are already in place.
